Our Methodology to build a successful Certification program

We followed the below steps to achieve this:
Step #1: Determine the need for a certification program
The first step in developing a certification program is to first evaluate the market need. Determine who is the test candidate and the total size of the target market. Evaluate if there are similar credentials already in the market. we conducted a feasibility study in this phase of determining the need for the certification program. our feasibility study may include:
- Information gathering – researching target audience(s), market analysis, etc.
- Survey development – survey and pilot testing
- Additional data collection – focus groups, interviews, etc.
- Analysis – results and recommendations
Step #2: Determine the resources needed to create the certification exam
The process of launching our certification program has long-term success including market research, subject matter expert recruitment, beta testing, test form development, standard setting, and more.
Step #3: Getting started with developing a certification exam
After we determined the need for a certification program, we created the actual certification exam. The certification exam is designed to measure whether professionals have the required skills and knowledge to competently perform the job or role you are certifying.
We considered developing a certification exam that is fair, reliable, legally defensible, and consistent with credentialing industry standards. This is where an expert psychometrician comes in to support the development of your certification exam, facilitate meetings with subject matter experts, and support the long-term maintenance of the program.
Throughout the test development process, active involvement from subject matter experts (SMEs), a representative from the credentialing organization, and a psychometrician is needed.
Another important consideration in developing our certification exam is the credibility in mind to select the right SMEs. These subject matter experts must have a depth of knowledge of the specific field being certified and, since many certifications are testing for applied knowledge, it is also a benefit that they have real-world experience. These SMEs will play an essential role in the development and evaluation of the certification exam content.
Step #4: maintaining a successful certification program
A professional certification program can be a valuable tool for organizations, but it is important to maintain the program in order to ensure long-term success, this why the main step we follow is the importance of keeping the certifications up-to-date so that the certification remains relevant in today’s rapidly changing markets. The criteria should be updated regularly to reflect the new skills and knowledge required to succeed in today’s marketplace.
What is UDU ?
UDU stands for Union Development Units (UDU)TM and it is equivalent to Continuing Professional Development Units (CPD). It’s the process of learning and developing your knowledge and skills whilst you work. This shows colleagues, clients and the regulator that you are committed to upholding your competence.
At the GVU we offer you a wealth of opportunities to develop your expertise through online resources, events and publications, and document your progress.
UDU vs. CPD
The Union Development Units (UDU)TM represent credit units specifically tailored for the Global Verse Union (GVU) and are comparable to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), which involves the continual upkeep of professional competence. Recognized as a crucial element, UDU plays a pivotal role in elevating professionalism standards within the Verse-related Technologies.
Importance of UDU
Successfully completing UDU reflects a commitment to individual roles and the broader profession. Members receive a certificate upon finishing each UDU year, serving as tangible proof of their dedication to continuous professionalism.
The completion of full UDU years opens up numerous opportunities for members. In addition to the appropriate qualification, it enables them to apply for a Statement of Professional Standing—a prerequisite for all professionals. Moreover, meeting other criteria allows members to apply for individual memberships or certifications. GVU members gain access to premium UDU resources designed to help them enhance and sustain their skills and knowledge, all while earning CPD hours. These resources encompass a plethora of on-demand videos, Professional Refresher e-learning modules, UDU events and webinars, and exclusive access to our acclaimed magazine, The Review, both digitally and in print.

Structured UDU
Structured Learning is an activity for the express purpose of learning, such as a training course, where there are defined learning outcomes to be achieved. Structured UDU, must be verifiable e.g. through attendance records.
Where reading is recorded as structured UDU, the reading should only comprise of educational reading where quality reading material has been produced to meet a clearly specified learning outcome. GVU’s expectation is that the member will record the title and author of the publication or qualification and complete a detailed learning outcome.

Un-Structured UDU
This element includes unplanned activities, where there is no pre-determined learning objective and
outcome. This also includes unaccompanied learning activities.

Audit Process
All members using the GVU UDU Scheme that successfully complete their UDU can be randomly selected for audit. The GVU selects up to 10% of its members for audit annually. GVU audit processes and policies can be found within the GVU Audit process.
Failure to Complete UDU
All members who have failed to meet the UDU requirements will have their membership suspended. Members suspended will remain suspended, until their UDU requirements have been met.
Membership Reinstatement
Individuals who have had their membership suspended due to failure to complete UDU will only be able to reinstate their membership on meeting their UDU requirements.
Members who have met the UDU requirement within the 12 months of suspension are required to email [email protected] and provide their UDU records and evidence of UDU completed.
Members reinstating after 12 months has lapsed, will need to complete the membership reinstatement form to reinstate their membership and submit their UDU records and evidence of UDU completed.
Individuals looking to reinstate after three years will be required to reapply for membership and meet the requirements at the time of application.
How to approach UDU
- Expectations – what do others expect of you and what standards do you expect of yourself?
- Changes – the main changes affecting you in your role.
- Responsibilities – what are the areas of responsibility for your role?
- Environment – what are the main business environment issues for you?
- Knowledge gaps – what do you need to know about?
On reflection, you may decide that you do not need to do anything to meet your UDU needs if, for example, you are not currently working.
The following activities, if relevant to your role, could count as UDU:
- Technical reading
- Learning at work
- Meetings with experts
- Conferences
- Courses and seminars
- Online learning
- Workshops with your peers
- Reading magazines, newspapers and journals
- Registering for updates and email alerts.
Evaluate the effectiveness of what you have done. Are you satisfied that your actions have enabled you to meet your objectives, or do you need more work in this area?
Every year some members are asked to provide evidence of their compliance. We recommend that you keep an online record of your UDU during the year so that you can submit this easily if required to do so.

While many GVU members already engage in UDU activities as a membership requirement, making UDU compulsory for all membership levels allows members to advance and cultivate their careers, with the added benefit of receiving a certificate as tangible recognition of their efforts.

Depending on your level of membership you will be required to undertake a specific number of UDU Credits.
Yes, all members will have access to their own personalized GVU UDU log as part of their membership. This can be accessed via MyGVU.

- GVU publications – The Review and Investment Management Review Any UDU undertaken with the GVU is automatically recorded within member’s GVU UDU records
There are number of activities that cannot be recorded as UDU, which are listed below:
- Appraisals / one-to-ones / performance reviews
- Meetings where no measurable learning has taken place
- UDU undertaken that does not cover Verse-related Technologies subjects.
- Activities that are part of the job role, rather than a
learning activity - Social events.
Yes, some firms have a very explicit UDU scheme which goes further than the GVU UDU minimum requirements. We would recommend you check your
firm’s requirements when undertaking your UDU . Your
firm’s requirements, if higher, will supersede the GVU UDU requirements.
All members who have failed to meet the UDU requirements will have their membership suspended. Suspended members will remain suspended until they meet the UDU requirements.
Consequences of not meeting the UDU requirements are:
- Loss of UDU™ certification status
- Inability to upgrade membership
- Inability to maintain or renew an GVU
- Cancellation of Certificate of Professionalism
- Loss of membership benefits
If your membership was suspended due to failure to complete UDU, you will only be able to reinstate your membership once you have met the UDU requirement.
You will need to complete the membership reinstatement form to reinstate your membership.
If you are looking to reinstate your membership after three years, you will be required to re-apply for membership and meet the requirements of GVU membership at the time of your application.
